Wait a little longer
Outside March and April it is better not to prune the butterfly bush. In winter the old stems protect the plant against frost, and during the growing season pruning costs the very flowers the butterflies come for. Leave the shrub alone and plan the prune for early spring.

- Biggest mistake: sawing everything flat to the ground without looking; keep a healthy framework with living buds.
