Wait a little longer
Outside May, June and August it is better not to cut the cherry laurel hedge. In autumn and winter freshly cut leaves can freeze and brown, and July carries the highest risk of heat and drought. Wait for a calm spell in the growing season.
Pay attention to this
- Wait for May, June or August and for calm weather.
- Biggest mistake: cutting straight through the large leaves with blunt tools, which causes brown edges.
- Other plants called 'laurel' do not automatically follow this advice.
- Always allow for frost and for differences between species and positions: postpone pruning during prolonged frost or when night frost is forecast.
