Wisteria has two fixed moments: the winter prune in January and February and the summer prune in July and August. Pruning outside these costs flowers or disturbs the framework, especially around the late-spring flowering. Wait for the next pruning moment.
Pay attention to this
- Wait for the winter prune (January, February) or the summer prune (July, August).
- Biggest mistake: confusing main branches and wanted young framework with long side shoots.
- Always allow for frost and for differences between species and positions: postpone pruning during prolonged frost or when night frost is forecast.
